Reno Collective Benefit Show at Amendment 21
June 30th, 2009 • Events • No comments
Mike and Nate over at Amendment 21 have been more than good to us as we’ve collaborated on events in the past such as the themed bar crawls, geek nights and Lunch 2.0. We are now doing a benefit show on August 1st featuring Black Rock City All Stars and Bohemian Burlesque.
The all-ages event will kick-off outside Amendment 21 at 7pm with Black Rock City All Stars, hula hoopers, Bohemian Burlesque, booths from local community organizations, and more. At 10pm, we’ll bring the party inside for a 21+ performance by Bohemian Burlesque.
Get in the door with a $5 donation that will help us develop and continue hosting wonderful resources and events for the Reno community. Drink specials include $5 PBJ’s.
Come join us for some fun and learn more about Reno Collective and how you can help make Reno a better place to live, work, and, of course, play!
Downtown Reno – A Place to Live, Work and Play
June 25th, 2009 • Announcements, Coworking • No comments
A great video created by the City of Reno. This is exactly why we have been working so hard to bring coworking to Downtown Reno through the Reno Collective.
“The lastest renaissance in downtown Reno began in the late 90s when City leaders focused on revitalizing the Truckee River corridor. The vision was to create a downtown where residents would live, work and play. This video highlights residents who are living the new downtown experience everyday through their investment in a condominium, business or leisure activity. The redevelopment agency completed a number of projects, including retrac, century riverside theater, palladio, special events center, ballroom, city plaza, whitewater park , west street market and other attractions.”
37 Signals: Natural evolution from side project to full-time business
June 25th, 2009 • Entrepreneurship • No comments
37 Signals is known for advocating solopreneurs, side projects, freelancing, and more. They also have observed the natural progression that occurs in starting a side project WHILE still at a full-time gig and how that project can evolve into a full-time job or product. Basecamp started out as a side project for DHH with 37 Signals and look how far it has come.
“And it’s true that building a business requires plenty of time and effort. But the idea that you need to quit your job to do it right is misguided. If you quit your job, you shift everything. You don’t gain time, you lose it. You put a shot clock on your business. You box yourself into a position where you have to profit immediately or the whole thing goes under. You’ve got to make it work now or give up forever.”
