Five things we love about our coworking community

Celebrating International Coworking Day 2021, put your pants on and get to work!

Today is International Coworking Day 2021 and we thought it would be fun to share a few things we love about our coworking community in Reno. We've been doing this for a long time and these are a few things that have stuck out whether we are meeting in person or online.

Coworking spaces are unique to traditional workspaces for a few reasons:

  • Most of the time, our members have the option to work anywhere and they choose to work with us
  • Everyone works for different employers or themselves!

With that in mind, here are five that we love about our coworking community.

1. WFH is awesome but our members are also strong advocates of creating boundaries and work-life balance

We've been coworking with WFHers since day one but especially now that many "desk jobs" have become remote, our members have shared their desire to reclaim some semblance of work-life balance. For some, it is to give space to other family members working from home or have a dedicated place to work after dropping kids off at school. It helps to create boundaries where "work can stay at work" and time at home can be spent disconnecting from work and connecting with friends and family.

2. Members giving other members permission to thrive

We see this most often in first-time freelancers or while building a new business. A member knows what they want to do and they know what they are good at but they don't always know how they should charge, or sometimes, how to charge for those skills. Our favorite program to run with members is our "Cotivation" mastermind group. The biggest takeaways for us are listening to more veteran members share what has worked for them, sharing techniques for finishing projects on time and budget, and seeing newer freelancers raise their rates and improve their business while also getting to know one another better, personally and professionally.

3. Our members love productivity tools (like, a lot)

This one might not be a surprise to anyone! If you are wondering what the best is for ? Our members are on it. Collectively, we've used nearly every productivity tool and system, both analog and digital. Bullet Journals? Check. Atomic Habits? Yep. Time trackers, meditation apps, project management apps, invoicing and billing, and the best notebooks from dot grid paper to tiny ones that fit in your back pocket? Our members have you covered.

4. Collaboration is cool but sometimes members need some quiet too

We are huge fans of collaboration but as with all things, there can also be too much of a good thing. In fact, excessive collaboration is now fueling burnout with tech workers. Our current space, formerly Granny's House Recording Studio, has worked out so much better for this than our previous space, which made hiding away in a quiet spot hard to do. Now, we have so many different spaces and types of rooms to work in. It makes it easy to grab some coffee, say hello to a few folks on your way in, and throw your headphones on for some deep work. We get it, sometimes you just need to get some shit done!

5. We would not be here without you!

This one is for you, all of our amazing members: past, present, and future! We are so much more than our four walls and you are the lifeblood of our "community of work". We have loved to be a part of each of your own professional journeys and can't wait to see what the future has in store for each of you. Of course, this also includes everyone in the Reno community who has supported us but hasn't found a need to come work out of our space or attend our events, yet. We will have events again one day and we can't wait to hang out with you all at the next Ignite Reno!

Happy International Coworking Day!
